Kenopsia

‘Kenopsia’ is a piece that tells a story of a place in a different world in a different dimension in my mind. In this place, a breaking point was reached. The people that lived there were living under a dishonest government system. This system only set them up for failure and disguised itself as life. It favored the individuals that were at the top and there was no way of getting to the top for the average person. But the people did not want to be on top. They wanted enough to live and there was plenty. They did not want to be above anyone else. There was abundance for everyone if shared. They wanted a self-run system based on morality and equity. They wanted to hold each other accountable for kindness. They wanted to build a foundation from love and not hate and exercise that love daily. The people no longer had a choice and war broke out. The people won but not many were around afterwards to experience the freedom. The consumer billboards were vandalized by the survivors, and the area was planted with an eerie seed of hope.

kenopsia

n. the eerie, forlorn atmosphere of a place that’s usually bustling with people but is now abandoned and quiet—a school hallway in the evening, an unlit office on a weekend, vacant fairgrounds—an emotional afterimage that makes it seem not just empty but hyper-empty, with a total population in the negative, who are so conspicuously absent they glow like neon signs.
